Arizona Tax Credit VS Deduction
TAX CREDIT
Tax credits directly reduce the amount of tax you owe, giving you a dollar-for-dollar reduction of your tax liability. A tax credit valued at $2,000, for instance, lowers your tax lability by the corresponding $2,000.
TAX DEDUCTION
Tax deductions, on the other hand, reduce how much of your income is subject to taxes. Deductions lower your taxable income by the percentage of your highest federal income tax bracket. So if you fall into the 22% tax bracket, a $2,000 deduction saves you $440.
How Much Can You Donate?
Each year the State of Arizona sets the maximum donation amount for Individuals donating to the Private School Tax Credit. If you are unsure of your total liability to the State of Arizona we have a Video helping you find it on your taxes and a helpful Turbo Tax Guide. And as always, talking with a tax professional is recommended.
